Arrivals by Yacht or Private Aircraft

Are you arriving in New Zealand by private yacht or aircraft? You may be eligible for a visitor visa with specific entry requirements designed for private craft travellers.

 Who This Visa Is For

This visa is for visitors arriving by private yacht or private aircraft, including:

  • Owners and their family members (dependants)
  • Crew members
  • Passengers

 Basic Entry Requirements

In addition to the standard visitor visa requirements, you must provide:

  • Proof of funds: At least NZ$400 per month if you're living aboard a yacht
  • An outward travel ticket OR evidence you can buy one if departing by commercial transport

Additional Requirements Based on How You’re Departing

If you’re not departing on a commercial flight or ferry:

  • Owners and dependants must show:
    • Proof of craft ownership
    • Insurance covering major damage
  • Crew and passengers must provide:
    • A signed letter from the craft’s owner or captain confirming they will depart on the same craft

Can I Stay Longer?

Yes — you may be granted a visitor visa extension if:

  • Your yacht or aircraft requires major repairs or refitting
  • You are a yacht crew member waiting out the South Pacific hurricane season (October to April)

 Important Notes

  • You still need to meet health, character, and bona fide visitor requirements
  • All visitors arriving by private craft are subject to New Zealand immigration checks
